Getting started with your driving lessons
Before you start to drive you must:
- Hold a provisional driving licence for great britain or northern ireland.
This is obtainable from you local post office (called a form d1) or give us a call and we will send you one out in the post free of charge. Normally, for car drivers, the earliest date your provisional licence can become valied is your 17th birthday, however you can apply for the licence up to 3 months before this. The current cost of a provisional licence is £38. Allow at least 3 weeks for your licence to arrive. When you apply for your licence you must enclose original documents to confirm your identity.
The driving test is in two parts:
- The computerised theory & hazard perception test.
- The practical driving test
Once you have your provisional licence you will then be ready to start taking your lessons. You can choose how long your lessons last. One hour is more common but some people benefit more from a two hour lesson.
It is worth thinking about the following:
- How much time you have available
- How much you can afford to pay
- Whether you live in the town where you will take your test. (if you live 15 minutes out of town and want collected and brought back home a two hour lesson might be more suitable)
- Whether a semi-intensive course would work better. This can be anything from 3-8 hours per week and will get you through your test quicker (usually within 6 weeks)
Whichever way you choose the driving centre will help you through with a series of planned lessons to suit your time schedule. If you wish to speak to someone to help you make the choice contact us on the above number and we will be happy to help
